Knowledgebase: Call Park Information

Information & Instructions: Parking, Attended Transfer, Blind Transfer.

Parking - Place a call in a park stall so that anyone can pick up from that stall by dialing into it.

Attended Transfer - Place a call on hold while dialing an extension to alert that extension that someone is trying to talk to them, the call then has to be transferred to the dialed extension OR a different extension is dialed until an extension can take the call.

Blind Transfer - Transferring the call directly to an extension, caller is not placed on call and there is no contact with the desired extension before the call is transferred.

Attended Transfer and Parking are similar in the facts that the caller doesn't know either way if they are being parked or transferred and that both hold a call while it is decided who will answer the call.

Differences are that Attended Transfer requires someone to call an extension, give them the choice of taking the call, or stating that they are busy and have the call transferred somewhere else. Attended Transfer is ideally used for when the person answering the call is of a distance where walking to the intended extensions area to ask if they want to take the call, or if there is a need of an explanation to the desired extension on why the caller is calling. Parking is simply placing a caller in the stall so that the phone can be walked away from to notify a person, that the extension is in need of a pick up. There is no need do anything other than place the call on park.

How Parking is configured while Attended Transfer is defaulted: Parking stalls are features already in the FreePBX system that are needed to be dialed into to be placed in, or picked up from.

For convenience, soft keys can be assigned to parking stalls and to place a call in a parking stall, that dials the parking *2nn (nn being the parking stall) that is needed.

How to Park a call: Example: Parking stalls are set up to 71-78 To park a call you can dial *2nn (nn being the parking stall, ie 71 or 72) to park the call then to pick up then call the number that the stall that the call is parked in. Also to park a call, dialing *270 will park the call in the first available stall. (If 71 is full then it would go to 72 and alert you that it is in 72)

If softkeys are set up- Depending on if Attended Transfer of Blind Transfer is set to default (Ask your phone system administrator to find out) changes the way to use the softkeys that are set on the phone.

Blind Transfer defaulted softkey usage - Simply select the parking stall to park and to pick up from park.

Attended Transfer defaulted softkey usage - to park a call select the Park softkey. Then hang up. (similar to transfering a call, which essentially is happening) To pick up from select the parking stall where the parked call is parked.
